The American Andretti Autosport teammates completed their two-day test with the final two sessions at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, LA today.

_ news and notes

Zach Veach, No. 26 RePLAY XD

  • First session – P7 at 1:29.254
  • Second session – P10 at 1:29.781

“Our two days at NOLA have been a very humbling experience for us. We got most of the first session in yesterday and then endured some gearbox issues the second session. Unfortunately this morning we only were able to run half a session because of braking issues, and in the last session, we had to fix some things with the gearbox. Really I think all the flaws got worked out this weekend, and if anything, we’re better prepared for the test coming up at Barber (Motorsports Park). The Andretti Autosport team has worked extremely hard to give me a great car. I don’t feel like being sick at this test, that I’ve been able to perform 100% like I normally would, so it’s just been a couple of big learning days for us.”

Matthew Brabham, No. 83 United Fiber & Data/MAZDASPEED

  • First session: P2 at 1:27.749
  • Second session: P2 at 1:27.760

” It was another good day. I think we proved that we definitely have the pace to fight for the first couple positions. We were in the top two every single session, so I definitely think we have a lot of speed. At the same time, we still have a little work to do and a lot of changes to make still. We’ll keep working hard at it… focusing on St. Petersburg. Overall I’m very pleased at how it all went. The United Fiber & Data/MAZDASPEED guys are working really hard and doing a great job, and I think all the hard work is definitely showing.

Finishing off our week at NOLA Motorsports Park, Canadian Grist and American Blackstock ran their second pre-season race on the 2.75-mile road course.

Garett Grist, No. 27 DaVinci Foods/Lander Property Management

  • Second Pro Mazda race of his career
  • Qualified P2 at 1:32.804
  • Gained the lead on the first lap
  • First win in Pro Mazda with over a five second lead

“Today was a great day; it was only our second start in Pro Mazda. We started the DaVinci Foods/Lander Property Management car in second again. Yesterday, we got a poor start and fell back in the field, but today I was able to get a good start, put my head down up front and just knock off very consistent laps and pull away (from the rest of the field). It’s a fun track (at NOLA Motorsports Park); it’s fun for single car testing, but a little tough for racing as there is really only one passing zone. Definitely a fun track, and hopefully we’ll come back here maybe for Winterfest. I have to thank the Andretti Autosport crew and my sponsors for putting me here as I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.

  Shelby Blackstock, No. 28 Starstruck

  • Qualified P5 at 1:33.392
  • Experienced trouble during the start resulting in damage
  • Finished P7

“After a very interesting day, we unfortunately found ourselves in trouble at the start; we ended up getting a lot of damage on our car due to the pileup that occurred on our side of the grid, and we finished seventh today. The Andretti Autosport crew worked so hard all day long, and it’s unfortunate for the Starstruck car to encounter such bad luck. In the end, congrats to Garett (Grist). We’re hoping everything goes well for us in Barber.”
